THE GAME

GAME SETUP & RULES

Check to see you have all game pieces. Game should include 1 game board, 1 Republican Elephant game piece, 1 Democratic Donkey game piece, 2 dice, 1 bag of 33 blue "States Won“ markers, 1 bag of 33 red "States Won" markers, 12 "Debate Results" cards, "12 Media Perception" cards, 4 packs of 20 question cards, 1 pencil, and 10 scorecards.

Divide the total number of players you have into 2 teams. Open the board, place the Debate Results and Media Perception cards face-down, on or near the board. Shuffle and deal the question cards so each player/team gets 40 cards. Decide who will be scorekeeper, then roll to see who goes first. Whoever wins the roll can choose to go first or second, or choose to be the Democratic Candidate (donkey) or the Republican Candidate (elephant). The loser of the roll gets first choice on whichever Item the winning roller did not choose. Give the blue "States Won” markers to the Democratic Team and give the red "States Won" markers to the Republican Team.

Based on the knowledge and expertise of the players, decide which questions will be asked of each team. The questions are marked as EL (Elementary Level), for those 12 years old and over, HS (High School Level) for those 15 years old and over, CL (College Level) for those 20 and over, and MS (Masters) for those who think they are history experts. For example, you could ask a kids team EL and HS questions, while asking an adult team CL and MS questions, or you could ask a kids team just EL questions and an adult team a mixture of EL, HS, COL, and MS questions. It is up to you how to split up the questions.

OBJECT
OF THE GAME

You will win the game and become President when you obtain 270 electoral votes, or when you have the most electoral votes when an agreed upon time limit Is met. To accomplish this you must land on a space and successfully answer a trivia question. If you answer correctly, you win the number of electoral votes that state offers. Each state has a number listed in its space that shows the # of electoral votes.

RULES OF THE GAME

  • You may roll 1 or 2 dice on each turn as it may be advantageous to do so based on what state you wish to land on.

  • When you land on a space, the following 5 things can happen:

    • When you land on a space that nobody has won electoral votes for, and you answer a trivia question correctly, you win the electoral votes from that state ... place your blue or red marker on that space.

    • When you land on a space that you have already won, you may roll again.

    • When you land on a space that your opponent has won and that state has 19 or less electoral votes, your turn is over.

    • When you land on a space that your opponent has won and that state has 20 or more electoral votes, you may ask for a recount of that state. If you successfully answer 2 questions AND your opponent misses one question, you have won the recount and take control of those electoral votes. Remove your opponents Blue or Red "States Won Marker" and place your own on that space.

    • When you land on a space that is a Debate Results or Media Perception space, flip the card over and follow the directions on the card.

  • Once 35 states are won, you will stop rolling the dice. At this point In time, when it is your turn, you will move your game piece to the next state that has not yet been won. If you answer a question correctly, you win the electoral votes of that state.
